About the School of Nursing at Sharon
Welcome to the School of Nursing at Sharon Regional Medical Center. The program has been preparing nursing students to practice as Registered Nurses (RN) since 1899. With our current partnership with Penn State Shenango, students have the benefit of taking nursing courses at a hospital based diploma nursing program and college level academic courses at a university that is located one mile from the School of Nursing. Following graduation, the partnership ensures a seamless transition for students to begin the RN to BS in Nursing program at Penn State.

- Varied clinical experiences in a progressive health system. Beginning in the second semester, students participate in an average of over 120 hours in each semester. Clinical sites include: Long-term care, acute medical-surgical nursing units, ICU, behavioral health, cancer care, ER and the Women’s center.
- The program includes a 135 hour practicum in the month prior to graduation in which students work directly on nursing units with a designated RN preceptor.
- NCLEX – RN Pass Rates: 2016 91% and 2015 100%
- Assigned faculty advisement for each student to increase retention (Current Class of 2017: 82%, Class of 2016: 72%, 2015: 62%). Note: No students graduated in 2014 due to an updated curriculum and change to an annual May graduation date.

Acceptance to Sharon Regional Medical Center's School of Nursing is coordinated by the program’s admission committee and is comprised of two steps: Taking the pre-entrance ATI TEAS test (more information below) and completing the printable application (also listed below). TEAS Admissions Test
The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) test is a 4 part pre-entrance exam (Math, English, Science and English) provide through the Assessment Technology Institute (ATI). The exam is given at the School of Nursing September-February prior to the application deadline annually. To view the dates/time and register for the test, go to www.atitesting.com. The preferred score for the ATI TEAS test is “Proficient”. Please refer to the Admission Policy/Procedure in the program catalog for more information.

The School of Nursing is participating in the Federal Pell Grant and Direct Loan programs (Title IV funding). Additionally, scholarships are available from a variety of sources.
Note: Although Sharon Regional is currently on provisional status with the Department of Education Title IV funding, due to late submittal of our annual report, students are still eligible to apply for Title IV funding.

Sharon Regional Medical Center's School of Nursing opened a simulation lab in early 2009. The availability of the lab placed the School of Nursing in the computer-assisted age of nursing education. The lab increases educational opportunities for students and provides flexibility in learning approaches for faculty.
The Simulation Lab features Laerdal VitalSim equipment: Three adult, one child and one infant simulator are available for skill acquisition and higher-level patient care simulation. The lab environment consists of a large nursing care area where the simulators are housed along with other nursing equipment. Laptop computers are available for use in numerous learning activities.
Utilizing the Simulation Lab provides a safe environment for students to practice skills prior to care of patients within the hospital. The lab also provides opportunities for students to develop their critical thinking and decision-making skills as they progress through the curriculum.
Various scenarios are developed for each course that requires students to solve nursing problems with the simulator patients and explore all possible answers and decisions. The use of simulation is an adjunct enhancement option for use in addition to clinical experiences in the hospital setting.
