Hematology/Oncology Specialist Joins Medical Staff at Sharon Regional Medical Center

(Sharon, PA) August 22, 2016 - Sharon Regional Medical Center announced today that Hematology/Oncology specialist Mariya Apostolova, M.D. has joined the medical staff of Sharon Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Apostolova is located at the Sharon Regional Cancer Care Center where she provides care for adults with a wide range of medical conditions including the diagnosis and treatment and overall management of blood disorders ranging from anemia to cancers of the blood such as leukemia, hemophilia, sickle cell anemia and other related disorders. In addition, she oversees treatment for patients with a variety of cancer diagnoses. “The goal at Sharon Regional is to offer quality health care right here in our local communities,” stated Jason Roeback, CEO of Sharon Regional Medical Center. “We are pleased to have Dr. Apostolova join our team at the Sharon Regional Cancer Care Center to provide comprehensive cancer care services for our patients and their family members.”

Dr. Apostolova completed a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Allegheny General Hospital/Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA and her Internal Medicine residency at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, PA. She received her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine located in Grenada, Caribbean.

Sharon Regional’s Cancer Care Center is the only facility of its kind in Mercer County, offering total medical and radiation therapy cancer care in one location. Specialists at the Cancer Care Center use a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care, drawing upon the knowledge of other specialties in planning for patient care. This also means that patients have access to some of the newest therapies and treatment protocols while receiving highly personalized cancer care right here, close to home. Services include hematology and medical oncology and radiation consultation, cancer related therapy and lymphedema treatment, nutritional and social service counseling, and rehabilitation services including physical, occupational and speech therapies. Dr. Apostolova will be joining Roger Tokars, MD, a board-certified radiation oncologist and Yaser Al-Marraiwi, MD, a hematology and oncology specialist – also located at the Cancer Care Center.
