Sharon Regional Medical Center Signs UPMC Health Plan Contract

(Sharon, PA) – October 31, 2016 – Sharon Regional Medical Center announced today that they have signed a new contract with UPMC Health Plan that provides in-network access to Sharon Regional services, whether elective or emergency for many UPMC Health Plan members. The contract includes Sharon Regional Medical Group, Sharon Regional’s provider network that includes employed primary care physicians and specialists who are on the medical staff at Sharon Regional Medical Center.  The new agreement applies to Medicare, Medicaid and most commercial plans and is effective immediately.  

"This agreement marks a significant benefit for our community members across the region," stated Sharon Regional Medical Center CEO, Jason Roeback.  "Individuals and families with UPMC Health Plan will now have the ability to choose from a wide array of advanced health services and skilled physicians available at Sharon Regional.”

Sharon Regional Medical Center continues to contract with major insurers in the area including: Aetna, Cigna, Medicare, Tricare, Coventry, Medical Mutual, United, as well as others and will maintain its current status as a preferred provider for Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield plans. 

“We believe that offering choices in the market opens up access for patients who seek health care programs and services,” continued Roeback. “We have worked diligently with UPMC Health Plan over the last year to reach a mutually acceptable agreement that will allow UPMC Health Plan members access to our hospital and clinics.  As Mercer County’s largest employer and largest health care provider, our number one commitment is to provide access and choice for quality, affordable services to our patients.”  

Many of the physicians on the hospital’s current medical staff were previously included in UPMC Health Plan.
