New MRI Provides Faster, More Comfortable Patient Exams

New MRI provides faster, more comfortable exams for patients

(Sharon, PA) January 20, 2017–Sharon Regional Medical Center announced today that a new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system is now completely installed and ready for patient testing.

The new system, delivered in December through the rooftop at the hospital, allowed the 6-ton piece of equipment to be maneuvered to its new home in the radiology department located on the first floor of Sharon Regional Medical Center. Over the last several weeks technicians have been on site finalizing installation, in addition to completing a series of mandatory regulatory inspections in order for the equipment to be utilized.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) exams are non-invasive diagnostic imaging exams of soft tissue, bone, and muscle and are frequently used in medical diagnostic testing. The new MRI, an open bore which has a larger opening for the patient, offers faster exam times, enhanced images and provides patients with a more comfortable experience by reducing noise and enhancing comfort during the exam procedure.

Features of the machine includes mood lighting, which helps create a calming environment for patients, and a larger bore that creates greater access for obese patients up to 550 pounds. Additionally, the system’s ultra-short bore can help to alleviate concerns of claustrophobia since many exams can be performed with the patient’s head outside of the bore.

“Sharon Regional Medical Center is committed to investing in the technologies that can help physicians make quicker, more accurate diagnoses for our patients”, stated Jason Roeback, Chief Executive Officer of Sharon Regional Medical Center. “We are excited to be able to offer these high level diagnostic tools here in our community.”

The addition of this new MRI scanner to Sharon Regional’s radiology suite expands access to diagnostic imaging that supports a complete range of clinical applications, including neurology, orthopedics, body imaging, angiography, cardiology, and oncology.
