Cardiac Rehabilitation

The Sharon Regional Cardiac Rehabilitation Program includes exercise, education, counseling, and support for patient who may be suffering from cardiac conditions such as:

  • Heart attack
  • Coronary artery disease
  • Heart failure
  • Peripheral artery disease
  • Chest pain (angina)
  • Cardiomyopathy
  • Certain congenital heart diseases
  • Coronary artery bypass surgery
  • Angioplasty and stents
  • Heart valve repair or replacement
  • Pulmonary hypertension

Certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, this program helps cardiac patients reach their full potential by: 

  • Improving strength
  • Adopt heart-healthy behaviors, such as regular exercise and a heart-healthy diet
  • Cut bad habits, such as smoking
  • Manage your weight
  • Find ways to manage stress
  • Learn how to cope with heart disease
  • Decrease your risk of coronary artery disease and other heart conditions

Pulmonary Rehabilitation

The Pulmonary Rehabilitation program is a comprehensive program that provides exercise and education to people suffering from chronic lung diseases such as: 

  • COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
  • Emphysema
  • Chronic bronchitis
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Asthma
  • Pulmonary fibrosis Bronchiectasis
  • Sarcoidosis
  • Post COVID dyspnea (Shortness of Breath)

Sharon Regional Medical Center’s  Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is individually tailored for patients with chronic lung disease or an illness that has affected breathing. Participants are supervised by our Certified Pulmonary Rehabilitation Specialist, highly qualified Registered Respiratory Therapist, and the Medical Director. Participants attend a one hour-long class two times per week, up to 36 visits, where they receive exercise training, education classes, and support.

The overall goals of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program include:

  • Reduce respiratory symptoms such as dyspnea (shortness of breath) and fatigue
  • Decrease re-hospitalization
  • Increase muscle strength and endurance
  • Gain knowledge about lung disease and management
  • Improve quality of life
  • Decrease depression and anxiety
  • Reduce pulmonary exacerbations 
  • Ability to return to work or leisure activities
